Katie was inducted into the Player’s Hall of Fame in 2016

Former Ames High School standout Katie Purcell ended her illustrious prep career in 2010 by winning back-to-back Class 4A Iowa High School state individual titles (2009 & 2010).

Purcell’s dominance on the links also paced her team to state Class 4A crowns in 2009 and 2010 after Ames finished third in 2007 and 2008, respectively.

Purcell was just as successful competing in junior tournaments on the state and national levels. She won the 2009 IWGA Junior crown after earning runner-up honors in 2008 and qualified for the National Optimist event in 2009 and 2010. She also boasted a third-place finish in a Callaway Junior Series, a runner-up showing at a Future Collegians World Tour event and a fourth-place finish in an AJGA qualifier.

Purcell accepted a scholarship to play collegiately at South Dakota State after graduation. She competed two seasons with the Jackrabbits, compiling a 79.86 stroke average. She was the runner-up medalist at the Creighton Classic, helping the team notch their first tournament victory since moving to Division I. Some of Purcell’s scoring marks still rank in the Jackrabbit record book, including a 73 (tied for sixth-best 18-hole score) and a 231 (tied for eighth-best 54-hole score) at the Jackrabbit Invitational.

After SDSU, Purcell moved to Houston, Texas with her husband, Kayne Montang. She plans to graduate in May of 2016 with a double major in Accounting & Finance with a specialization in Personal Financial Planning. After graduation, Purcell will plan to prepare for the CPA and CFP exams in the coming years
